Summer’s in the air, and our construction crew is hard at work bringing the Little Bohemian to life. While we’re building a destination you won’t want to leave, we think it’s also the perfect time to share what you’ll find just outside our doors.
Occidental is the kind of place that’s meant to be discovered — a tiny village tucked into the far reaches of West County, nestled between redwood hills and stitched together by winding country roads that invite you to slow down before you even arrive.
The town is a time capsule. No chain businesses. No traffic. No rush of any kind. It has the mystique of a mountain village, the creative spirit of an artist enclave, and the warmth of a coastal town.
The more you look, the more your curiosity will be rewarded. A drive-through pottery studio off the Bohemian Highway. Colorful murals scattered throughout town. An enchanting world-class botanical garden.
This is the Occidental we fell in love with, and the one we can’t wait for you to experience.
A perfect day begins slowly. Start your morning with fresh pastries, excellent coffee, and conversations with locals at Howard Station or the Altamont General Store. Spend the afternoon with a personalized tea tasting at Two Trees Tea House, browse village boutiques for vintage finds, local art, and treasures you didn’t know you were looking for, or simply wander and let the pace of Occidental set the rhythm of your day. Just a few minutes away, immerse yourself in a world-class wellness experience at Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary, surrounded by Japanese-inspired zen gardens.

As the afternoon melts into the evening, linger over golden hour at our magical Farmer’s Market. Then gather around the table at the beloved Hazel or discover Bohemian Bistro’s newest chapter of elevated dining — intimate, thoughtful restaurants that reflect the creativity and character of this remarkable place. The famed Italian dinners that have drawn generations at the Union Hotel and Negri’s are still here too.
Our town may not make headlines, and perhaps it’s better that way. Occidental sits at the crossroads of everything that makes West County so special—just minutes from towering redwood hikes, refreshing river swims, world-class wineries, farm-to-table restaurants, a rugged stretch of Sonoma coastline, and some of the most beautiful cycling routes to be found anywhere.
This is what we love about our corner of the world. It invites you to do as much—or as little—as you want. To explore deeply, linger longer, and trade the usual rush of everyday life for something slower, simpler, and more connected.
