Break Through in Tension Relief – Taking Massage to a New Level
When we opened Osmosis as a Healing Sanctuary almost 40 years ago, we made a commitment to our guests to provide high quality, therapeutic services. While our spa started with a focus around our cedar enzyme bath, early on we realized the power of adding massage therapy to our client experience. In terms of massage, our goals have always been to offer a heart centered approach to healing with true therapeutic value. We decided to offer longer than average massages, stay committed to keeping our therapists trained and inspired, and continue to look for new and innovative treatment offerings.
Fast forward three decades, and so many radical changes in our work and personal lives. How hard is it, in 2024, to truly take a break from the texts, calls, emails and never ending notifications? Who here occasionally props open a laptop and works from bed, or scrolls through social media accounts when they could be deep breathing before sleep? The increase in the stress of daily life has created in many of us a stronger need for deep relief.
At Osmosis we have seen this play out in an ever increasing request for deep tissue massage. Even among those who book a swedish massage, comments such as “you can go as deep as you’d like”, “I can handle a lot of pressure, I have so much tension” or “Can you please work out the knot in my _______ (shoulders, back, etc.)” are daily occurrences in our treatment rooms.
A question we have been asking ourselves for years now is “What can we do about this?” Not all of our therapists perform deep tissue, and for those who do, they can only do so many massages.
A few years ago we discovered the Theragun massage tool, and some of our massage therapists and managers started using it at home for themselves or family. No one was disappointed, in just a few minutes the theragun is able to break down fascial tension, increase blood flow, and make limbs and joints feel looser and more relaxed. A team of our spa managers went to the ispa conference in Phoenix this year, looking as always for therapeutic solutions to share with our guests.
